Nestled in the middle of the Langdale mountains,  this location offers instant opportunities for world class walking, mountain biking, road biking, climbing and wild swimming.

Situated directly on the fells,  it is also conviently nestled between two famous Lakeland watering holes
(Slanty Lees Tavern and The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel owned by the National Trust).

A stone built cottage, full of character outside, yet modern, stylish, spacious and inviting inside. Idyllic Lake District living doesn’t get any better than this….

About New Stickle Cottage

Set in the heart of the Lake District, amongst some of the finest mountain scenery, New Stickle Cottage provides direct access to the fells by stepping out of the front door. Discover a renovated stone cottage, brimming with character, yet with all the modern luxuries and practical perks on hand.  Framed by the fells, there are a wide range of hill walking, wild swimming, mountain biking, road cycling and trail running opportunities available from the doorstep.

Situated at the base of the Stickle Ghyll waterfall, right on the Cumbrian Way and nestled between two famous Lakeland watering holes, The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and Slanty Lees Tavern (owned by the National Trust) there is food and drinks available all day, meaning that there is always the option of dinning out as well as dining in. The famous climbers inn, The Old Dungeon Ghyll, with its quaint bar and sloping floor is only a short walk down the valley, as is the popular Wainwrights in the opposite direction. There are also many other local walkers pubs a short distance away. 

 

If, however, you are planning to dine in, there is a well stocked Co-op in Chapel Stile, a Tesco in Ambleside and a larger Boothes in Windermere.  Equally, the town of Ambleside with all of its amenities and restaurants is under 6 miles away. New Stickle Cottage is also only a short 20 minute drive from the neighbouring villages of Grasmere and Hawkshead.

 

With 2 private parking spaces directly outside, driving to this cottage is highly convenient. However, it also has good transport links by both bus and train (see our location page).  

A home brimming with quirks and character, rooms have been rearranged to maximise light, space and views. Sleeping quarters are located on the ground floor, preserving the picturesque views of the fells for the daytime. 

Comfortanly sleeping 6, three spacious bedrooms are located on the ground floor, compromising of two with kingsize beds, and a twin room. All rooms are bright and spacious with plentiful storage, hotel quality bed linen and stylish touches.   

A family bathroom is located on the ground floor, with a large spa bath and separate walk-in shower. Served by a WC and twin wash basins mounted in granite worktops, there is ample storage features within the vanity unit beneath.

Also on the ground floor is a utility room with a washer, dryer. and clothes horse. Beyond the utility room is access to the integral garage, ideal for securely storing your equipment such as bikes, paddleboards, dry suits, camping and walking equipment and more. A second shower room is also located on this floor also with shower, wash basin and WC. 

On the first floor, there is a light and spacious lounge, with spectacular mountain views through a large window. There is a high quality Clearview wood burner which is easy to light and smokeless, meaning that the warmth and beauty of a real fire is readily available to ensure cosy nights in. The living room boasts a flat screen TV and sumptuous sofas with plentiful seating for 6 people. 

Across from the lounge is the splendid,  light and airy kitchen, with large windows which frame striking views out over the fells. Friends and family can sit at the central island, enjoy a drink and chat as dinner is prepared, before moving to the dining table by the window.

 

Integrated appliances include a dishwasher, coffee machine and double Bosch ovens. All water to New Stickle cottage comes straight from Stickle Ghyll, the local mountain stream and is chemical free, only filtered using sunlight meaning that it is incredibly healthy and good for your microbiome. (It is of course certified and monitored by the local water board).

 

 

Also on this floor is a large shower room which is warmed by underfloor heating. There are beautiful views of the fells throughout the house.

Outside there is an enclosed garden which backs directly onto the fells. Well behaved dogs are very welcome at New Stickle Cottage and therefore the dog shower, located in the garden, provides warm water for the comfort and cleanliness of your dogs. There is a large, comfortable, table and chairs on the patio, allowing guests to take pleasure in the mountain scenery whilst enjoying drinks , alfresco dining and entertaining.

LOCATION:

New Stickle Cottage has an unbelievable location - situated right in the heart of Great Langdale,  one of the most breath-taking valleys in the Lake District, at the foot of the Langdale Pikes. The valley is perfectly located for anyone loving the outdoors and a hub for walking, cycling, climbing and wild swimming. 

 

Situated at the base of the Stickle Ghyll waterfall and right on the Cumbrain way   (a 73 mile route of the most breathtaking landscapes that Cumbria has to offer), New Stickle Cottage is  nestled between two famous Lakeland watering holes – The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and Stickle BarnTavern. The latter is currently owned by the National Trust, but manged by the Slanty Lee artisan distillery, steeped in history, based in Langdale and offering exceptional liquor (as well as food). The famous climbers inn, The Old Dungeon Ghyll, with its quaint bar and sloping floor is only a short walk down the valley, as in Wainwrights in the opposite direction. There are also many other local walkers pubs a short distance away. 

 

Local amenities include a well stocked Co-op in Chapel Stile, a Tesco in Ambleside and a larger Boothes in Windermere. Equally, Ambleside with all of its amenities and restaurants is just under 6 miles away. Great Langdale is also close to the neighbouring villages of Grasmere and Hawkshead.
